A message from Alex Mason, the CEO and founder of AAA Diving.

Scuba Diving is not a commodity. What I mean by that is, if I want to buy a digital camera, I will go online and hunt for the absolute cheapest price I can find. Regardless of where I buy the camera, it will be the same camera. BUT Scuba Diving is NOT a commodity. It's a service.

What do you expect from a Scuba Diving Charter?

  • A good boat
  • New Dive Equip
  • Dive Computer (for certified divers)
  • Dive Guides
  • Small ratios per guide
  • No dive operator rivalries onboard
  • Not to be rushed
  • Maximum allowable bottom times (air or deco limits)
  • Long surface intervals
  • Concern given to picking the best dive site conditions and dive levels offer

This is what makes Scuba Diving a service, not a commodity

I started AAA Diving 7 years ago. I had a small van, 6 sets of equipment, a business license and $50 in my pocket. I have worked exceptionally hard for the last 7 years to build AAA Diving. I used to buy commercial boat seats, the same as most other operations on the island. The biggest complaint I had was people feeling too rushed. The boat would leave the harbor at 8:00 sharp, ready or not, and we would be told we must be back on the boat from our final dive no later than 10:20. This was so the boat owner/captain could be back by 10:30 and out on the next charter by 11:00.

The way I dealt with this problem was I made huge investment in a boat which was a 1/4 of a million dollars. So now, the boat is run on my schedule, not a captain's whom I have no control over.

I began selling boat seats to other operators while I was taking out my own customers, just like on the boats I was using prior. But, unfortunately, the rivalries between the island operators is intense and I would end up with 3 different companies and their customers sitting in opposite corners of the boat, with no one talking to each other. This was annoying me as the captain to the point that during my boat briefing I would say, "The competition is over guys. Lets go out and have some fun diving." Unfortunately, this fell on deaf ears. Now, you will not be on my boat with any other dive operators.

I was first a Master Instructor, and now a boat captain. My boat is custom designed for diving. Furthermore, if I get to a dive site and there is a 3 knot current, my schedule is not tight so that you are going to dive it regardless. I will simply pick a different site.

If you have questions please feel free to call or email me. I will not hesitate to tell you how it is.

So, if this is not worth an extra $10 or $15, please choose wisely and have a good time!

May the Viz Be With You!
